The factory food industry has existed for only a very short time in the history of dogs. This means: either factory foods need to evolve to output fresh raw juicy meat, or dogs need to evolve to process dry grains. I can’t see either of those things happening real soon.

I got thinking about people and dogs today, and wondering about the factory food industry. How did packaged food come to represent dog food nutrition? With the ability to go off on their own, dogs caught and ate small animals, and found dead things to scavenge.

Start with a very small amount of fresh food mixed with a lot of their favorite junk food. Then increase the meat ratio gradually till it’s all fresh food. It’s OK if this takes weeks. Getting hooked on factory food took a long time, so what’s a few weeks?
